Referendum on the Thirty-second Amendment of the Constitution Bill 2013

Polling at the referendum took place on Friday, 4 October 2013. A referendum on the court of appeal (Twenty-third Amendment of the Constitution (Court of Appeal) Bill 2013) also took place on the same day. The subject matter of the referendum was described as follows in the official polling card sent to each elector: “THE THIRTY-SECOND AMENDMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION (ABOLITION OF SEANAD ÉIREANN) BILL 2013: You are being asked if you agree with the proposal to amend the Constitution to abolish Seanad Éireann, to provide that from the date of such abolition the Oireachtas shall consist of the President and Dáil Éireann, and to amend other provisions of the Constitution that confer functions on Seanad Éireann or that are premised on the existence of Seanad Éireann.”
